25 July 2019 – As part of the regional programme on youth engagement funded by UK Government, youth in North Macedonia is empowered to formulate, defend and develop their own proposals for change through a series of dialogues around potential ideas for change, which turn into youth-led initiatives. One of those initiatives is the opening of a new library in the municipality of Studenichani.
The library is found between two villages, Studenichani and Batinci, which enables youth of different ethnic backgrounds to use this space. The space for the library was renovated by the community while IOM supported the furnishing and equipping of premises with desks, chairs, shelves, books, IT equipment, heating, office supplies, Wi-Fi, etc.
During the official opening of the library with H.MA Ambassador Rachel Galloway, the Minister of Culture, central and local government representatives, youth described how this library provides a unique service to the youth, as both a public space and as a portal for meaningful access to the information that the community need to learn, grow and develop.
